Abstract:

In the modern era, we are exposed to sources of information from different fields such as health, environmental quality, transportation, security and more. Sometimes the information we are exposed to is the result of some kind of analysis: like for example the conclusions of a scientific study and sometimes the information is detailed which can be analyzed and based on the results of the analysis to make managerial or marketing decisions.

GIS technologies make it possible to display, analyze and map tabular data by spatial-geographical methods. The GIS gives another tools to data analysis, which can support decision-making.

The G.I.S - Geographic Information System can be defined as an organized collection of hardware, software, geographic information and professional personnel that enable the management, recovery and analysis of geographic data. The GIS technology is the spatial complement of the alphanumeric information systems and is an integral part of the corporate information system.

Conceptually, the GIS systems is a map linked to a table. Using a unique GIS technology, it is possible to research, manage and generate information from different types of data with a spatial extraction. Examples of the spatial data can be: vehicle location in a given space, roads, buildings, municipal areas, streams, water sources and more.

Governments Institutes and companies from the private sector publish various databases in the Public Domain, some of which the students will be exposed to during the course. Using the software platforms they will learn as part of the course. The students will analyze data and propose solutions that will support managerial and planning decisions.
