Abstract:
First we refresh the fundamentals of communications such as: signals and spectra, signal transmission, sampling and filtering, noise and bandwidth, data rate and Shannon Limit.
Then we give the foundations of pulse coding (PAM, PWM, PPM and PCM) and quantization, followed by base-band digital transmission and the digitization of analog messages.
The second part of the course gives an Introductory presentation of information theory that enables to understand the concepts of channel capacity, source coding and error detection and correction.
The third part brings the important subjects of digital modulation techniques for bandwidth-limited systems and for power-limited systems.Abstract:
Five meetings will deal with antennas and wave propagation
antenna matching, radiation patterns, gain, polarization and wireless link
Five meetings will deal with communication techniques
sampling, pulse modulations, binary modulations, multi symbol modulations,
transmit-receive channels and line coding
Three meetings will cover a self (or couple) research projectAbstract:
Radio Frequency components and systems are known for many years.
In early days they have been used mainly for military purposes such as radars,
secured communications and electronic warfare. In last three decades, RF and microwaves had been penetrated into commercial markets and into everyday life.
The cellular and wireless communications became dominant and leading industries in the world.
This course covers most aspects of hardware design in the radio industry.Abstract:
The course has three parts: the first part defines
the fundamental parameters of antennas and describes
the basic radiation mechanism from single radiators and from arrays.
The second part describes the main antenna types: wires, apertures, microstrip and reflectors.
The third part combines the know-how in antenna field into
practical insight – how to simulate and measure antennas and relations to the wireless world.Abstract:
Wireless and Mobile communications is one of the most promising
industries in the world, while Israel is a well known leading country in new products and technologies.
This advanced course presents the concepts and terminology of the wireless channel, from channel capacity, entropy and digital coding, via propagation and fading effects, to the physical components and standards and techniques of actual links. The course will include subjects from the hi-tech industry who will cover updated
technologies and systems such as multi antenna channels
(MIMO), fifth cellular generation (5G), short range RFID and WIFI / BT modems.
