Course description:
Moral principles, which grow from philosophical thinking, affect the law, the economy and the welfare of the country's citizens and are the basis of political methods.
The philosophical, social, legal and economic thought dealing with the concept of property reflects the beliefs and perceptions of the people of the time not only in relation to the property itself but also in relation to their perception of man and society.
In the course we will learn about the origin of the concept of property and its development and we will explore the relationship between the philosophical basis and the social, economic and legal basis of this concept.
We will discuss the different approaches to the concept of property, as well as to the concept of justice, rights and obligations, and their effect on regulating the distribution of resources in society. The concept of property, and as a corollary to property law, has a decisive impact on the human right to dignity and autonomy, on the collective well-being, on the distribution of wealth in society and on the incentives for the development of technological innovation, community, creativity and culture.
Among the thinkers discussed in the course: Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Mill, Bentham, Rawls, Nozick and Marx and thinkers from the field of law. We will read selected chapters from the thinkers' writings (a complete bibliographic list will be given at the beginning of the course).
