Abstract:
This course provides students with practical experience in testing and calculating of mechanical properties of materials.
Using various measurement equipment, the students apply topics learned in Material Science courses 1&2, and Strength of materials
1 about responses of materials to different types of mechanical loading and heat-treatments.
The students acquire knowledge of operating standard engineering
measurement equipment and deepen their understanding of material properties.Abstract:
This course represents a branch of theoretical physics,
namely Mechanics, on which mechanical engineering is based,
especially robotics and mechanical design. Students will acquire
knowledge and understanding in the following areas: types of
rigid body motion and methods of analyzing their plane and space
kinematics, frames of reference, Newton's Laws for plane and space motion, energy and momentum methods for plane and space motion, Euler's equations, gyroscopic motion. Real mechanisms
will be analyzed and examples from mechanical design field will be brought.Abstract:
The course provides a powerful tool for mechanical engineering understanding and use. It covers the basic topics of mechanical design, an analysis of fatigue and related parameters, ways to avoid failure due to fatigue, and establishes methods for safe and optimal design. Many cases of loads and stressing are discussed in details and drills are performed.
Major topics discussed in the first part of the course include welding design, riveting, bolts designed for tension or compression, lifting and handling screws, elastic analysis of bolts for joints, and others. Means of moment transmitting are discussed, such as couplings and clutches, disc brakes and others.
Shafts and their bearings will be designed for strength and durability.
The student will get the required fundamentals for advanced courses in machine design and will be familiar with the required terminology for developing specifications and defining system characteristics.
