Abstract:
Materials science applications in mechanical design, material structure, strengthening mechanisms, mechanical properties of materials (elastic properties, plastic and fracture), properties derived from engineering production processes, cold work processing versus hot work processing, general heat treatments (stress relief, annealing), weld failure preventing, dynamic properties, mechanical properties at high temperatures, the phase diagram. Steels - heat treatments and hardenability, surface hardening, and steal specifications. Aluminum alloys - Heat treatments, Temper designations, welding, coating, and processes.Abstract:
This advanced course focuses on the properties of metallic alloys and their applications. The course will review the various groups of metals and applications such as 'metals for general use', 'light metals', metals for corrosive environments', 'metal for elevated temperatures', 'high strength metals and more.
Special emphasis will be given to the mechanical properties and advanced material selection. In addition, we will study common manufacturing processes used in the industry used with metals.Abstract:
This course gives the student practical experience in selected topics studied in previous courses in the field of materials engineering. The student acquires knowledge in the field of material characterization and quality control in the industry, which is carried out starting from the purchase of the raw material, through the production processes to the finished product. In addition, the methodology of the characterization and failure analysis processes will be study in a practical way using a variety of test equipment.Abstract:
Understanding of materials selection and design in mechanical systems provides a practical knowledge for failure prevention and selection of manufacturing processes for achieve optimum engineering
applications. This course is the continuation of the introduction course 30107-8, and it deals with more advanced topics on engineering materials. Topics include: Classifying materials:
The families of engineering materials, Matching materials to design, Materials selection- the basics and criteria, Material property charts and applications, Materials Selection in Mechanical Design, Advanced microstructure-processing properties relationships and failure criteria, Process-property interaction and process selection. The overall goal is to provide the students with the basic principles for selection, design and utilization of materials with high mechanical reliability and performance
