    Abstract:

    The topics that are studied in the course:

    Maxwell equations in differential and integral forms,

    boundary conditions for Maxwell equations, conservation

    of electrical charge, electrical scalar potential,

    magnetic vector potential, wave equations for potentials,

    electromagnetic power and energy, Poynting theorem in differential

    and integral forms, method of images, solutions of non-symmetrical

    electromagnetic problems by using variable separation method,

    Maxwell equations in phasor notation, quasi-static approximation,

    distributed systems, penetration depth and skin effect, plane waves,

    interaction of plane waves with conductors and with dielectric discontinuities, Snell's law.

    Abstract:

    In this lab, the student will understand the limitations of practical digital systems

    and lab equipment and measurement. He will explore the electrical static (voltage)

    and dynamic (switching) characteristics of TTL and CMOS logic gates;

    implement a Monostable Multivibrator using CMOS gates; implement an

    Astable Multivibrator using CMOS gates, Op. Amp. and Schmidt Trigger;

    Will designing a f?unction Generators using Op. Amp.;

    Explore applications of Timer 555; use integrated circuit 2206 as a

    f?unction Generator; explore A/D, D/A converters; design a digital PLL using XOR Gate, LPF and VCO circuit.

    Electrical transmission lines, TEM modes, voltage and current waves, characteristic impedance, reflections in transmission lines, impedance matching, Smith chart, transient response in transmission lines, TE and TM modes, rectangular waveguide,

    Brewster angle, perfect reflection, Fabry Perot, dielectric slab,

    single mode propagation, phase and group velocities.
