    Abstract:

    The main topics of the course are vector algebra, static particles,

    the equivalent system of forces, the equilibrium of rigid bodies, the analysis of frames and machines,

    the analysis of trusses, distributed forces and the center of mass, the moment of inertia and friction.

    Abstract:

    In the course, mathematical models of elastic problems

    will be introduced. First, a mathematical toolbox required

    to solve such problems will be given: Index notation, tensor algebra,

    coordinate transformation. Next, the foundations

    of elasticity will be explored: traction and stresses,

    equilibrium equations, deformations and strains, compatibility equations,

    principal stresses and strains, constitutive equations for

    isotropic and anisotropic materials. Then, the formulation of

    elastic problems will be developed: displacement formulation

    (Navier-Lamme equations), stress Formulation (Beltrami-Michell equations),

    plane stress and plane strain, Airy Stress func tion. Finally

    planar Cartesian and polar problems and axisymmetric problems will be solved.
