Generative AI has made fluent text cheap and abundant, and in doing so has moved the professional value of writing away from production and towards judgement. What remains scarce is the ability to specify what needs to be said and to whom, to detect whena fluent draft is inaccurate, empty or damaging, and to stand behind a document that carries one's name. This workshop aims to develop these abilities through the documents engineers actually produce: emails, refusals and bad news, status reports and meeting records, decision memos, proposals, CVs and cover letters, and communication with non-technical readers. AI tools are used openly throughout the course; students are assessed on the quality of their judgement rather than just their output.
